We Put Every Rated SoCal Boys Team on One Scale. Here Is What Surprised Us.
The first True Level rankings are live. The gaps between leagues are smaller than the badges suggest, and at the younger ages the pyramid does not look like what most parents think.
We just published the first cross-league team rankings for SoCal boys, built from verified 2025-26 season standings. A few things in the data surprised even us.
The league gaps are real, but smaller than the marketing
The top Elite Academy teams rate above a meaningful share of ECNL teams. Not the top ECNL teams, and not most of them. But the overlap is real, it is visible in the numbers, and it is exactly the thing a league badge is designed to make you forget. If you are choosing between a bench role on a mid-table team in a bigger league and a leading role on a team dominating the league below it, the honest answer is that those teams may be closer in level than their jerseys suggest. Our take on that trade-off is in playing time vs the top team.
At the younger ages, the pyramid is not what you think
Ask most parents to name the top boys league and they will say MLS NEXT or ECNL. Below U13, those platforms barely exist; the national leagues start in earnest at U13. At the younger age groups, Elite Academy League is the top of the SoCal pyramid that actually fields teams, which is why EA teams dominate the top of the youngest boards. That is not a bias in the data. That is the actual shape of youth soccer at the younger ages, and it is worth knowing before anyone sells a young player's family a "pathway."
What is not rated yet, on purpose
Every rankings page lists the leagues competing in that division that we have not rated yet, with team counts. We publish that gap instead of hiding it because an unrated team has not been judged, it has not been verified, and those are different things. Girls leagues and SoCal Soccer League standings are next in the verification pipeline, and ratings appear automatically as they land.
Argue with us
Every rating shows its evidence: record, division, matches counted, confidence. If you think a team is rated wrong, the receipts are right there, and we genuinely want to hear it. The system gets sharper with every verified result and every parent who pushes back with facts. Here is exactly how the ratings work.

Yes. Girls league standings are next in the verification pipeline, and ratings publish automatically as verified results land.
No. Ratings are built only from verified results, every rating shows its evidence, and no commercial relationship affects them.
