17 Questions to Ask a Club Before You Write the Check (They Hate #9)

Print this. Ask them out loud. Transparent clubs answer easily; evasive answers are answers too.

Money (1–5)

1. What are the total club fees, and what do they NOT include?
2. How many uniform kits are required and how often does the kit cycle change?
3. Which tournaments does THIS team plan to enter, and what's the per-family cost of each?
4. What did travel actually cost this team's families last season?
5. Do you offer financial aid or payment plans, and when do funds run out?

Playing time & development (6–10)

1. What is your playing-time philosophy at this age — in numbers, not vibes?
2. How many players will you roster on this team, and how many typically dress for games?
3. Where did last year's players from this team go — how many returned?
4. How much did this exact team's families spend all-in last year, including travel? (The single most clarifying question in youth soccer. A club that tracks and shares this respects its families. A club that bristles is telling you who pays for the ambiguity.)
5. What does a player who's behind the rotation get from you — specifically?

Coaching (11–13)

1. Who actually coaches this team — not the club's marquee name, THIS team?
2. How long has that coach had this group, and what's their license?
3. If the coach leaves mid-season, what happens?

Logistics & culture (14–17)

1. Where and when are practices, exactly — and how firm is that?
2. How do you communicate with parents, and how often?
3. What's your policy when a family wants to leave mid-season?
4. Can I watch one of this team's regular practices before deciding?

If you can only ask three

Ask 9, 11, and 17. Then run the club through Scout and check what verified teams they actually field in your kid's age group.
